Around the World With FilmBuff

Travel season has begun, and we FilmBuffs want to get out there and see the world.  With this week's record temperatures in New York, though, the mere idea of stepping outside makes us want to melt. [READ MORE]

American Flag

This week is all about independence, in honor of July 4th.  We're showing great films featuring stories and characters who take a stand for their passions - whether politics, t-shirts, or nothing at all.  These great movies are proof of the American spirit - they make laugh, think, and most of all appreciate living in the USA.

Check out all the great trailers here, and follow us on Facebook and Twitter for more updates as the week continues.

Tell us what you stand for!  ‘Like' FilmBuff on Facebook, and post your comments on our wall.  Let's share the independent love.

Sinful Summer

It's the first day of summer, and things are heating up at FilmBuff.  We're kicking off this week with Sinful Summer - sultry films paying tribute to the intrigue of these long, hot days.

Check out films like SICK SEX, THIS GIRL'S LIFE, DEMONLOVER, and others.  We'll be updating all week on Twitter and Facebook, so stay tuned, and let us know what you think.

We can't think of a better way to indulge.

Last week our own Steve Beckman gave a guest lecture at The New School on the business of documentary, to an audience of young, driven filmmakers.  He spoke about the state of independent film distribution, and students asked insightful questions about how to get their films seen by an audience, and how they themselves can drive that initiative. In honor of Tartan Week, this week's guest blogger is Justin Molotnikov, director of CRYING WITH LAUGHTER, which FilmBuff released at this year's SXSW Film Festival, day and date with its premiere on iTunes and Amazon VOD.  The film is also available starting today on major cable providers nationwide.  Click here for more information about the film and where you can watch it.

Scottish in America, Justin Molotnikov

It is never a chore to sell Scotland to the Americans. We are, after all, closely related on many levels - you like to swagger, we like to stagger, we like our oats, whereas you revere them as a super-food and sell them in your top restaurants. [READ MORE]

This year's SXSW was all about...location.  Monday's NY Times article "Digitally, Location Is Where It's At," by David Carr describes just how hot this topic is right now.  Using applications like Foursquare, Gowalla and others, we're better connected to our friends, and generally more aware of who and what is around us.
